Arianne, our resident Marine Biology expert, had read online that the tides were at their lowest levels in 19 years!. Basically, it was this freakish act of nature where all 36 factors that affect the tides lined up ju-u-st right, and the water levels dropped a reported four feet, leaving tons of amazing aquatic life washed up on shore!

Having spent the bulk of my years in inland Texas, ocean life is still a mystery to me, and a delightful one at that! I'm still charmed by things like seagulls, which true Seattle-ites regard in the same respect as New Yorkers and sewer rats. And the prospect of seeing crabs and geoducks was too much to resist!

So we headed over to West Seattle and Alki Beach (where I tried to take my parents last fall when they visited and I got lost! Quelle embarrassment!)...the picture above kinda shows how far the water has left the shore!
