I re-read this on the plane on my way home for Christmas. How appropriate, eh? : D This collection from NPR supahstah David Sedaris features the wildly popular "Santaland Diaries", which is just hysterical.

Now, from what I've read of the customer reviews on Amazon.com, this book has a reputation for not being one of Sedaris' strongest. And while I definitely love Sedaris' family-based stories the best, I think his fiction is great, too. (The first section of the book is fiction, the last section, non-fiction.) I mean, "Season's Greetings" had me laughing out loud on the plane, with its forced cheery Christmas letter from the suburban mom whose husband had an affair back when he was in Vietnam, and now the child of that union has come to live with them in the U.S. Har!

But for anyone not familiar with Sedaris' style, be cautious. He really is dark and twisted, and not for everyone. This book in particular, is not for everyone, especially some of the fiction pieces which are just wicked twisted! (janice.01.03)
