baby bird

review: My last day in this fascinating town with the magnificent cathedral and highly-demanded water (ha!) sees Stephen Jones and his assembled ensemble come out to play.
Bawl, the support, were pleasant enough, but that faint praise isn't meant to be as damning as it probably sounds. Ho hum.
Baby Bird come on stage one at a time, building up the sweet, swoonsome, swelling, um, superb "Dead Bird Sings." That was the high point; for all the sardonic posturing, good-to-great tunes and abandonment of top 3 (UK) hit "You're Gorgeous" halfway through, they never quite reach that level of beauty again tonight. All the same, a smart way to spend my final evening.
