eleventh dream day
april 27, 1997 • MTW, offenbach, germany

review: What has happened to Eleventh Dream Day? Since the rough-hewn rock of their debut LP "Lived To Tell" and the sheer genius of 1993's "El Moodio," they've become, well, Tortoise --- only worse, and with screeching guitar bits. I blame Douglas McCombs, of course, and leave disappointed. My notes made on the way home read: "...played only one song I know ("That's The Point") and the new guitarist looks like the Wicked Witch of the West."

Oh, I almost forgot Freakwater, a C&W band with Janet Beveridge Bean on vocals. Their songs are pretty enough with lovely harmonies, but nothing to really rock my boat, so to speak. Serves me right for having had high expectations. (andrew.1997)
