review: Sad story: in the used CD bins, someone must've dumped their
Superchunk collection recently. There was a huge stack of full-lengths, singles, EPs, etc. And Mike and I noticed Mac shopping the store before his performance, standing in front of the used bin, staring at those unwanted Superchunk discs. :( I wanted to run up and hug him.
So, this was really exciting! It's the first time
Portastatic has ever played the West Coast, and I'm so in love with his latest CD. He did this acoustic set at our local record store. Mac gets up on the tiny Sonic Boom stage, and he's soo cute! I wonder how old he is now. He looks so young. Anyway, he began his set with The Magnetic Fields' "Josephine"...melt! He also sang "Autumn Got Dark" (off his new EP), "Drill Me", and "In The Lines". Then he played "Noisy Night", playing along to a pre-recorded drum and strings track that he put together, joking, "I hope this works...but I played drums on this drum track, so I've already got
that working against me...". He needn't of worried --- he sounded great! I just love his voice, and he sang so flawlessly that evening! Yay Mac!
