review: Okay, people...listen up...go see this film! Stop reading this review, go to fandango.com (just for the paperbag puppets), buy your ticket and run!
This is my favorite film of this year. I knew from the first 30 seconds. Zach Braff is truly a triple threat (have always wanted to say that) and more. He not only stars in the film, but wrote and directed it. I was "in it" (inside movie reference) from the start. His onscreen presence is fantastic, his direction is as if he's been doing this for years, and the writing is dead on. It's really that simple. Natalie Portman is the female lead (she can lead me anywhere!). She is a button on top of a button with a side order of button (yes, that's a good thing).
The music...superb. Braff assembled a soundtrack that truly fits each and every moment. The music was another character in the film. So great to see! And hear! There are sounds from Coldplay, The Shins (a favorite of Braff), Simon and Garfunkel, Zero 7 and a great acoustic version from Iron & Wine of the Postal Service's "Such Great Heights". Fantastic!
That's really all I can say. I want the film to speak for itself! You better not still be reading this....go...go now.....(karen.08.04)
