Adventures in Stereo is actually one guy: James Beattie, who used to be in Primal Scream. And while his 60's-obsession rages on, he's moved from guitar-driven psychedelia to sweet, poppy, gentle, dreamy songs instead. This is sooo soothing. Forget a cup of chamomile tea --- try this out instead! With the ethereal-voiced Judith Boyle on vocals, this album floats through 30+ minutes of dreaminess! "International" is particularly gentle with it's banjo accompaniment. Which is another thing: apparently, this is Jim's first release without his old partner, Simon Dine, who has left and formed Noonday Underground. I don't know much about this fellow, but apparently, he took all of the synthesizers with him, because this is a much more organic release than we've come to expect from Adventures in Stereo. And although some find Judith's flat vocal styling humorous, personally I think it complements the textured music beautifully, like solids and stripes! (janice.11.00)
