the distortions
exploding teenage body part • blank recordings • 2005

The Distortions are a Los Angeles band with Interpol's clothes and Robert Smith's hair. Their singer/guitarist/producer goes Interpol's Carlos D one better in the abbreviation department, simply going by "F".

The music is kind of generic, shoegazer-influenced modern rock. In case you might miss the point, they have a song titled "Shoegazer". A few of the songs are actually pretty decent, and there's not a whole lot to complain about other than the fact that it's not terribly new or interesting. Oh and the creepy lyrics: "They're sticking things inside you / as your stomach turns"...well you got the second part right, there, "F". Overall it's an okay disc, and maybe worth a listen if you're a genre fan, but nothing to get excited over. (mike.03.05)
