Don't try and deny it: everyone loves Electric Light Orchestra! It's sad, but Jeff Lynne just doesn't get enough props for his amazing songwriting prowess. Instead, ELO seems to get lumped into this "kitschy" category just because all these songs came out in the 70's, and because some of the songs appeared in a movie with a glowing roller-skating Olivia Newton John. (Hey, I LIKE Xanadu!) But ever since director Mike Mills used "Mr. Blue Sky" in a Volkswagen commercial, I think ELO have started getting the respect they deserve.
This latest compilation kicks off with that particular song, and follows with 19 more classic tracks. You'll sing along to "Evil Woman", crank up the stereo with "Livin' Thing", and dance across the living room to "All Over the World". And what makes this compilation stand out from previous 'Greatest Hits' collections is that it includes "Xanadu", and the CD liner notes feature some great pictures (check out that 'FRO!) and some entertaining reflections from Jeff.
If you've never heard of them before, this new compilation CD is a great place to start experience the ELO. And if you've worn out your old ELO records, this disc is a great way to get all your old faves on one release! (janice.09.05)
