(See below for details on our CD giveaway contest!)

If I can just offer one piece advice to José González, it would be this: consider changing your recording name. Take a cue from Mark Kozelek, a man who you sound an AWFUL LOT LIKE. Try something abstract and "indie-friendly" like Red House Painters or Sun Kil Moon, because frankly, I'm concerned that a lot of people who might otherwise enjoy your music may mistake you for the "world music" artist of the same name and end up with latin dancebeats instead of the lovely acoustic-driven music that you record.

This José González was born and raised in Sweden, that little hotbed of wonderful music. His songs are quiet, acoustic affairs with very little other instrumentation (some bongos in "Remain" and a tiny bit of trumpet). He sounds a lot like Mark Kozelek when he sings (especially in "Heartbeats"). Sometimes the CD can get a little repetitious, but it's very, very pretty. (janice.11.05)

we're giving away this album!

We've had a winner in our contest to give away a copy of Veneer, which was recently re-released on Mute Records. Our trivia question was: "Heartbeats" is a cover of what other Swedish band? The answer: The Knife. Congrats to our lucky winner!
