It's very rare for me to be taken by a band like I have been bowled over by Keane. I first heard them back in November of last year when I heard their single "This Is The Last Time". I immediately wanted to hear more. It's not that it's a ground-breaking sound, it's just an absolute delight and a sound that resonated with me. Unfortunately, at that time there was nothing available here in the States. I travelled to the UK in March and figured I would find something from them at Virgin or HMV. Heck, they're UK-based...no such luck. I checked everywhere. The standard response was, "We are waiting for it, just like you".

Got back to Seattle and started to hear them on local radio and finally found out the US release date for their first LP would be May 25th. Picked it up yesterday and I am loving it. Yes, they were first discovered by indie pop label Fierce Panda (you may know them as the folks who brought us Coldplay, Polyphonic Spree, Bright Eyes and even the latest Death Cab For Cutie). Three adorable boys, Tom Chaplin, Tim Rice-Oxley and Richard Hughes, write all their songs together. Melancholy songs of heartache and longing have never sounded better. Amazing piano stylings and tender vocals provide the listener with a stunning debut. Their first single "Somewhere Only We Know" hit number 3 in the UK and is destined for greatness here, as well. I look forward to the opportunity of seeing them live in the States as they plan an extensive tour. Currently, they are hitting major markets in support of their debut. I hope we can support what the UK has already fell in love with. Keane is just that (couldn't resist). (karen.05.04)
