I am in love with Mosquitos. No, not those mosquitos, the Mosquitos who make records!
Yes, I have recently discovered what I think to be quite a musical treat. This New York based trio is truly a breath of fresh air in the indiepop scene. I think you could blame it on the bossa nova! Their lead singer, Juju Stulbach, was born in Ipanema (yes, people are really from Ipanema)! She and her U.S. band mates, Chris Root and Jon Marshall Smith are creating some amazingly refreshing Brazilian-tinged indiepop.
Many have compared their sound to Bebel Gilberto meets Belle & Sebastian. It is easy to hear the comparison on their latest release, Sunshine Barato, which translates to "cheap sunshine". Tracks like "Love Remix" and "So Voce E Eu" are like pure magic. LOVE this group!!! You may be familiar with their song "Boombox" as it has been heard on "The O.C." and used for other promotional purposes. This was the song that gave them their first big exposure. It can be found on their self-titled release.
In summing up, this a bright, fun, yummy cd. Can't wait to see them live. (karen.10.04)
