shooting fish: original motion picture soundtrack • capitol records • 1997

"Shooting Fish" is one of my most favorite movies of all time. It's sweet, bright, breezy and lighthearted --- and the soundtrack complements it perfectly. It was compiled by the guys who did the soundtrack for "Trainspotting," which may give you an idea of how perfect it is. The songs are sewn tightly into the tapestry of the film, and listening to the soundtrack, you can't help but think of Jez, Dylan and Georgie. Space's excellent "Me & You Vs The World" opens both the film and the soundtrack in a energetic, whirling way. Alongside such bouncy British bands like Dubstar, The Supernaturals and The Bluetones, you can find Burt Bacharach classics like "What The World Needs Now Is Love" and "Do You Know The Way To San Jose." (If you haven't seen the film, the boys have a shrine to Burt in their place....wait. If you haven't seen the film, then you are depriving yourself!) (janice.97)
