This latest album from Washington DC band Sprites is pretty much my favorite thing right now. The husband/wife team of Jason and Amy Korzen bring us more delightfully quirky synth-indiepop with the goofiest lyrics that are sure to make you smile. Ivan and Christian, Jason's former co-horts from the band Barcelona, pitch in.

"Requirements for DJ's" is 40 seconds of painful honesty. Their ode to Dawn of the Dead director George Romero is so catchy you'll be singing along about zombies in no time! And holy crap, someone else out there remembers that 80's band The Outfield? My older brother had their 1985 album Play Deep on vinyl, and Sprites bring their own sweet sound to their cover of "Mystery Man".

Jason mostly takes the lead, but I especially love "I Love You, You Retard" where Amy's on lead vocals. The new wave-y beats and synthesizers remind me of the TV show "Square Pegs" for some reason. And the song "I Started A Blog Nobody Read" made me and Mike laugh like crazy, and we often quote lines to each other like the lyric, "George Bush is an evil moron..."

See what I mean? This album is awesome. (janice.08.06)
