This young London-based trio is officially a Bait Shop Band, having appeared at that fictitious club on Fox TV's The O.C. They mostly play a kind of garagey, grungy "modern rock" that sounds a heck of a lot like early-00s buzz-band The Vines to my ears. They detour into acoustic balladry on a couple of tracks ("Lines of Light" and "She Sun"). I find the bulk of this disc fairly ho-hum, but there are a few tracks that hint at something more interesting. "Mary" is a poppier number with folky verses and a sock-hop chorus, coming across like a pompadoured version of Caesars. Disc highlight "No Goodbyes" plays like a jauntier "Dancin' Barefoot" and features some very nice vocal harmonies on the chorus. I wish the whole album sounded like this. Album closer "Somewhere" alternates heavy garagey riffs with delicate dream-pop, attempting to bring the two together at the conclusion. It's an interesting experiment, but the chemistry fizzles in the end. (mike.03.06)
