Even though the date on this CD is 2001 I'm nearly certain we received it this year (2004). The Lovelies are a UK trio fronted by an art-school fellow named Tobin--no relation to copacetic's cat-in-chief.
This, their first release, is a 3-song single of inert and unmemorable guitar rock. They try to inject some life with some nasty distortion on the (entirely overlong) 3rd track, but it's a futile effort. Tobin's voice has a familiar quality I can't put my finger on -- not quite Paul Weller, but it did make me keep expecting a Mod sound which never happened. Oh well, can't win 'em all. (mike.08.04)
