a mighty wind
starring christopher guest, eugene levy • comedy/mockumentary • 2003 • rated pg-13

plot summary: The amazing writer/director/actor Christopher Guest does it again, this time with a mock-documentary about three folk bands from the 60's who are reunited for a public TV live concert broadcast.

review: I love Christopher Guest. And I love Eugene. And Catherine. And Parker. And basically everyone involved in making this! It's so so so funny. But I also cried, which I don't think I've ever really done at a Christopher Guest film before...but it has a touching sentimentality that moved me. It was sweet.

And the songs are so awesome!!! Everyone is just an awesome musician and songwriter. And while I knew that the gorgeous-fabulous-etc.-etc. Catherine O'Hara could sing (she's Sally in Tim Burton's A Nightmare Before Christmas), I had no idea Eugene Levy had such a nice singing voice.

My only complaint is, this movie is much too short. Apparently there's like ten hours of film footage that they shot (like all Guest projects, much of the dialogue is improvised). They could've easily made this a two hour film and given us an extra half-hour of laughs. And more Parker Posey. And more Jennifer Coolidge. (janice.04.03)
