owl & the pussycat
self-titled • kill rock stars • 2003

Melt! Swoon! I've nearly worn out this CD with constant repeats! It's soo dreamy!!!

Owl & The Pussycat is the latest project from legendary indie-pop queen Lois Maffeo and Greg Moore of The Moore Brothers. It's mostly pretty-pretty acoustic guitars, amazing boy/girl harmonies, and short, sparse but gorgeous pop songs. I'm hoping this isn't a one-off project like The Union Themes, because I'd love to hear them collaborate more! Greg has a fantastic soaring voice that blends spectacularly with Lois' girlish one, and the harmonies on this are so 70's-am-radio-gorgeous! The opening track, "Curtains", is my absolute favorite on the whole CD and is so sweet and mellow. "Don't Play Me" is a little more bouncy and buoyant. The only song I tend to skip over is "Tigers", which features a little flute accompaniment. It's a nice enough song, but when Greg belts out "We are all TIIIIIIIGEEERS!", it tends to make me cringe just a little! *Blush* Sorry! (janice.09.03)
