paul frank is our friend!!!
friday, july 11, 2003 • written by janice • pics by mike & paul's assistant

So, last Friday, Mike and I were able to meet designer/artist (whatever you wanna call him) Paul Frank at my favorite Seattle boutique, Hello Gorgeous in Capitol Hill. As you can see in this picture, the line was insanely long! And it was hot hot hot on this Friday evening. But it was worth it! : ) The super-nice store staff passed out free buttons, tootsie pops and Paul Frank playing cards to us as we waited, and it kept the wait from getting too boring.

I've seen pictures of Paul in magazines and on his website, but actually seeing him in person was pretty wild. It was hard to believe that the man behind such cutesy characters as Julius, Clancy, Worry Bear and Ellie was this big, burly looking guy! I had so many questions I wanted to ask him, but sadly, since the line was so long, I flaked out and ended up keeping things brief so the poor people still in line behind us could finally step inside the store and into some shade!

And, yes, even though I HATE having my picture taken, let alone posting it on the world wide web for all to see, I'm posting this picture of me and Mike with Paul. Look at how cute Paul is! He was so sweet and funny! Right before his assistant clicked the button on the camera, Paul goofily said, "Let's make it chummy!" and put his arms around me and Mike! HEE! You can see that I'm totally cracking up!!! I didn't get to ask him any questions I wanted to, but we did talk about Janice from The Muppets, and Paul said that she always reminded him of Mary Travers of Peter, Paul and Mary fame! Hee hee hee!!! I thought that was pretty cute! But anyway, it was totally fun, and he was so totally nice! I hope that someday I'll have the chance to meet him again and talk to him more about his company and how he got started 'cause he really is such a huge inspiration to me! That's all for today! Bye for now!
