We were hardly home for long before we jumped back in the car and headed for The Showbox. I like the Showbox, but it's definitely not one of my favorite live music venues in Seattle. The people who work there are always super-nice, and I like that there's seating in the back, which I've definitely taken advantage of in my wearier moments, but the place is just too big and there always seems to be sound problems there. But, whatever...
Our plan was to get there right at 9:00 pm, when the doors opened, so we could be sure to be right at the foot of the stage. I know, I know...we're total geeks. But when we got there, we could hear the faint notes of The Clean wafting out into the night air past the sullen doorman. I freaked out, jumping up and down in a panic, crying "How long have they been playing?!?!" The doorman reassured me they had just started, gave me a kind smile, checked our ID's, and sent us on our way. Together, Mike and I flew up the stairs and into the club...and dammit. The place was already packed.
We got up as close as we possibly could to the stage, straining our necks a little to see the band. The Clean were awesome, yet again, and yes, seeing the longer set was every bit as cool as I hoped it would be! They're not very chatty between songs, choosing instead to quietly name the song title and then quickly go into playing it. But I was too enthralled to care anyway.
And then, they called up YLT's bassist/vocalist/everything-ist James McNew to join them on a song! I was so excited!!! And then after he was done playing bass, James stepped off the stage, and then stepped out into the audience, standing quietly alone in the back, watching The Clean finish up their set.
